on sweets, candy-smashing and the spirit of the season
Sorry for the lack of updates. I have been - in no particular order - sick, very busy, very lazy, very tired. But it's December which means its full-on baking season.

I'm in the middle of making a list of things to make / try-out and I'm looking for suggestions. Specifically, any great recipes you may have for interesting breads or candies. I'd love to do the peppermint bark again this year but I don't think I have it in me for the candy-smashing. I'll probably wait until next year to take that one on again.

So please, help me get into the spirit of the season with any ideas or recipes or tips and I promise to reciprocate with more posts. Deal?

Ginger/pumpkin type breads! I don't have any, but those are a holiday favorite. I'll try to get my mom's swedish cookie recipe collection.
When're you gonna put out a deathbycupcakes recipe book?

I'd love to see some of your mom's recipes! Who knows - maybe next year there'll be a DBC zine ...

I added you... hope you don't mind. I was searching for info on peppermint bark & found your blog. :D

My name is Carol. I'm in Sunnyvale (not too far from you), love to bake, married with two kids and a cat, and have contemplated going to Mills... am at SJSU right now.

By the way, if you please... what is your opinion about storing bark? Fridge or no?

hi, thanks for adding me! Mills is a great school if you ever get the chance to check it out. As for the bark, per the recipe, it can be stored up to three weeks in an airtight container ... not sure how it would do in the fridge - it may get a little too hard but then again that's probably nothing that can't be remedied by letting it sit out for a few minutes.

Hey, this year (before our kitchen sink plumbing decided to go kaput) I tried making yeast bread for the first time and loved it. Better Homes & Gardens cookbook has a very easy French bread recipe. I also tried the Joy of Cooking's recipe for fast wheat bread (or something like that) and added about a tablespoon of fresh chopped rosemary. Yum!

Sadly, though, no holiday baking until the kitchen is up and running again :( so I'll have to live vicariously through you!
